Who We Are
Sussex Media School was founded in order to fill an educational & experiential need for young people, particularly those
within the care system or from disadvantaged backgrounds, to access a high quality musical education relevant to a broad range of industry related jobs on both the artistic and technical aspects of music production.

Our tutors are working industry professionals with a wide of skills, knowledge & experience, not just in “doing” but also in “teaching” who want to get young people excited about creating & performing. Our tutors have a vast array of experience including: session singing for XFactor, a signed performing artist, running a successful private music school for adults & young people, a session musician that toured & recorded all over the world, founder of music projects & recording facilities at youth centres, musical director for Celebrity Cruises, sound engineering & events manager, festival organiser, pastoral support for the National Youth Orchestra, sound recordist for film / TV & a film maker! This is just some of the professional experience of our founders, we also have a large database of experienced instrumental teachers for virtually any instrument you can think of.

Our founder, Matt, is not only a musician and producer but, after retiring from “The Road,” he has worked with vulnerable young people in a variety of settings. Initially starting as a Youth Worker in Dorset in 2006, he was able to use his expertise to run a night devoted to music which proved to be very popular and successful. A funding application was made by the young musicians which led to the youth centre being able to buy and set up a digital recording studio, rehearsal spaces, and a samba band kit. Matt then went on to work as an SEN Teaching Assistant, and then to Social Care, Youth Offending and Family Intervention. Matt has also worked in many residential children’s homes as an agency worker. Through the agency work, Matt was able to identify that many young people had an enormous amount of musical talent, ability and aspiration but very few educational establishments were able to develop this creativity, it was this thought process that led to the creation of the Sussex Media School.
